The upholstery was hard waxy leather, shaped for the contours of a body, from buttocks to neck, with a padded headrest on a stalk above.
Most frightening were the attachments. On the side was a wooden hand-crank; on the legs, seat and arms of the chair were broad leather straps with brass buckles.
