Ornette Coleman Trio - Paris 1966
Grammy and Pulizer award winner Ornette Coleman is one of jazz's few remaining living legends. Despite his age, Coleman is unwilling to be relegated to the past. He continues to tour the world with his music, which is as innovative and creative now as it was in the late 1950s, when he began to gain renown. Directed by Dick Fontaine, this amazing film shows Ornette in Paris, while recording the soundtrack for the Belgian film titled "Who's Crazy?" Besides showing the trio playing two complete extended tunes, Ornette, Izenzon and Moffett are seen speaking about music and rehearsing with their own - as well as other more unusual - instruments. For instance, Ornette is heard playing piano and Charles Moffett displays his abilities with the xylophone. All in all, this is an indispensable film that allows the viewer a rare glimpse into the world of one of jazz's true revolutionaries.
