S.M.A.S.H. - How To Get Hung
****Recommended For Rental****
S.M.A.S.H or How to Get Hung is probably the most peculiar and distinctive of the three films presented in this program. Essentially a medical spoof, the first part of the title references Robert Altman's 1970 blockbuster M. A. S. H.; the second half - somewhat more obscure - seems to refer to a rather under-developed plot element involving an effort to transplant a penis onto a woman's body. In many respects, the film is an unmitigated mess, constantly loosing the thread of its own continuity and under-playing the Wadd-man's jaw-dropping member (in spite of his starring status, Holmes only has a single sex scene in the entire production). That having been said, S.M.A.S.H. scores fairly high in the "accidental surrealism" department, a slapdash accumulation of miscalculations and mistakes that makes for a rather engaging cinematic spectacle.
