Country Tales
Hajos is a famous vine-growing region in Hungary. Hundreds of vinecellars line the streets neatly, tucked between homes and up the hillside. On the day of Orban the locals celebrate the grape harvest and the vine that shall be made from the harvest. Hundreds of guests come for this occasion as our friends have done as well. The early summer sun shimmers on the grape leaves, a small tractor hums up the hill to work the vineyard. A window opens on a local country home and Opal Lagoon, the blue-eyed city-boy stretches a big one. It's morning. The world awakens. Its muscles sense every desire and lust of youth.
In the nearby lake two local, country boys frolic around. They love each other. As Tom embraces Pete's wet body, the gentle touches suggest the feeling that's between them. This couple has genuine love for each other. Abrandos, who is lonely, peaks at them with a great deal of sadness and envy. A paradox of this story and life itself that young people search for true love but few are found worthy to find it. The passion of the story leaves little doubt in one's mind what is the difference between aggressive lust and emotionally fulfilling love relationships. Everybody picks and chooses what is their priority in life or just for the moment.
The story has a few key characters. Abrandos, the lonely shy boy who is full of emotions and frustrations. Huba, who is a "go-getter", a real macho, but he is only seeking physical fulfillment. Ricky, Kalman, Flame, Opal, Andreas are real, healthy, happy youngsters.
Opal goes to the harvest festival and glances at Abrandos. They become aware of each other, but Abrandos gets scared and turns away. Huba appears, who would put a move on Abrandos right away, but the boy escapes from this situation as well. A lot of people are attracted to the main street of the village. It's a typical Central-European country fair, they are frying sausages, links and hot dogs. Sweet cakes, candies shaped erotically, balloons, and lots of good vine abound. On the stage girls, but mostly handsome boys dance with fervor. In this crowd good friends meet and surprise each other with small gifts. Abrandos and Opal Lagoon briefly meet again and they are followed by Huba. The group gets together at a local vine saloon, but Abrandos sits at the end of the table all by himself. Huba would put a move on anybody. The rest try to get rid of him. Ricky and Kalman would like some privacy, so they escape to the cellar. They start to make love, but Huba recognizes the reason for their departure, so he follows them. At the end, the couple leaves this three-some scene and Huba is left alone. They return to the restaurant and Ricky and Kalman start to make out right there. The others tactfully leave the couple alone. During this love-scene Abrandos keeps peeking at them through the window and wishes he would be one of them. It wouldn't be Huba if he didn't budge in the scene. At the end the boys leave him alone. The rest of the boys decide to go to a nearby valley and make goulash at a camp-fire. Music and vine warms their soul and boils their passions. Ricky and Kalman join up with they boys a little bit "delayed". Passions rise, they are becoming physical. Huba catches Abrandos peeking at them and nudges him to join. The group jokingly makes Abrandos the subject of their sexual game. Abrandos casts his fears and frustrations aside and gives into the sexual frenzy of the seven boys.
Opal and Abrandos meet at the river bridge. Abrandos seems to be under strain. Probably the experience was too intense for him. Opal runs away and hopes that Abrandos follows him. He is not mistaken. The boys rolling down the hill, make passionate love and recognize that they mean something more substantial for each other. Huba budges into their scene, but at the end these boys leave him alone as well. Flame and Andreas run down the hillside from the goulash party and on the way home catch up with each other only to gift us with one of the most passionate love-scenes of this movie. They do find real love.
The sun settles to rest along the river bank. So does the village. It was a nice day. Six boys have found each other, three love relationships started and life has served justice. The aggressive, emotionless Huba was left to stew in his own soup. Drunk and rowdy he goes to sleep and perhaps thinks how he should change to find a mate.
Country Tails is an erotic slice of life in the Hungarian country side. Steve Cadro shows passions and disappointments with one of the finest cast he has put together in his career. If you are looking for innocent, but horny countrymen from Central Europe, this movie is not to be missed!
