"When 'Dream Team' was originally released a few years ago, it was amidst much fanfare and a slew of industry awards. Those few years haven't dulled the force of it at all. It is a massive undertaking of pure porn, plot integration, actual acting, and just about everything else that goes into making a superlative epic porn production. Director Jerry Douglas has an obvious vision for this story and sees it through so many details that could have easily slipped by most others.

There are seven main characters, all convening for a difficult five-year high school reunion in 1962. The credits introduce us to the guys, all with problems and issues stemming from their participation on a basketball team back in high school. Some are unhappy married, some are happily partnered, but whatever their life is now, it all seems to have started back on that basketball team. The guys congregate at the gym with their old coach, tough Preston Richie, to see each other before the festivities start. First to meet are ever-adorable and chiseled Rick Chase and Scott Lyons, looking doleful here with swooping blond hair coming all the way down his face.

In the past, these two had gone off on an errand and ended up in a cornfield drinking beer. Scott goes to pee and leaves his dick out ("I'll just have to take it out again later," he rationalizes), and Rick does the same. The point of this scene, and many others after it, is to show the initial bloom of sexual awakening. Douglas does a painstakingly good job of metering the performances and dialogue to make sure everything fits into that notion before the sex even starts. So, after some rather tender dick talk, Scott becomes hard, which is quite a sight. Rick gets hard too and they jack side-by-side. Rather than unrealistically going right to the sucking, we are teased into their oral action by the guys spitting on each other's dicks to wet them better. The drooling lips get closer and closer until finally a cock has reached a mouth fully. The scene is played out in real time, so by the time they get to their initial position, a 69 so that both will be trying it at the same time, the tension has built up almost unbearably. When Aaron arrives for his lessons, Kristian and Lucas are already in the moment. The long details here don't even hit every plot point contained in the long script for this film. There are tons of subtleties and interactions among the seven guys that cement their characters in unobtrusive ways. As I said, the attention to detail is so fascinating to watch that often you forget there is another sex scene to arrive. But, like all porn, the importance of watching a fuck video is ultimately the sex. And here, the sex is excellent. There are some slow moments, and as the disc goes on each sex scene gets progressively shorter as the plot gets bigger, but overall this group manages to make it all seem sexy and heated. "Dream Team" is as comprehensive a big-budget porn video as you can find. That may not be your bag, and that's fine, but for those of you who like a lot of plot with your sex, it is indeed some sort of dream.
