In Andys Kinderzimmer sind die Spielzeuge lebendig. Und Andys Liebling ist der Cowboy Woody. An Andys Geburtstag bekommt er jedoch den neuen Buzz Lightyear geschenkt, sein fortan neues Lieblingsspielzeug. Das lässt Woody nicht mit sich machen und versucht alles, um Buzz loszuwerden und wirft ihn kurzerhand aus dem Fenster. Der Nachbarsjunge und Sid, der es schafft alle Spielzeuge innerhalb kürzester Zeit zu demolieren, nimmt ihn und will ihn am nächsten Tag mit Hilfe von Sylvesterraketen in die Luft jagen.
