Slade - Slade in Flame [SE] [CE] (+ CD)
When Slade embarked upon their one and only movie in 1974, fans and critics alike were expecting something akin to a Glam Rock update of the Beatles' "A Hard Days Night", released a decade earlier. After all, in the dark days of a Britain beset by strikers, power cuts and a collective musical identity crisis, Slade were the ultimate good time band: irreverent, loud and armed with a terrific set of singalong stompers.
However, expectations were confounded upon the release of the film. Gritty realism, exposing the mythology of band life in the late Sixties, was the order of the day and Slade In Flame is all the better for it. Over 30 years on, it is universally lauded as one of the finest rock/pop movies ever made.
This deluxe set features a brand new print of the film transferred and digitally remastered from the original negative alongside a remastered CD of the original soundtrack album, one of Slade's most accomplished and varied recordings. The accompanying booklet contains detailed notes, a generous helping of photos, some with comments from Jim Lea, and related memorabilia. Also included on the DVD is a documentary featurette on the making of the movie, which includes revealing interviews with all four band members, director Richard Loncraine and actor Tom Conti.
